GMAT Exam

A standardized test, the Graduate Management Admission Test measures Verbal, Mathematical and Analytical skills. The test primarily intends to aid graduate schools of business to assess the potential of the applicants for advanced study in business and management. Nearly 1000 management institutes all over the world require GMAT® scores from the applicants.

The GMAT® is different from most other examinations. The examination is entirely computer-based, and no two students get an identical set of questions. The test is scored on a maximum of 800. The GMAT® Score alone cannot guarantee admission into a school. The test is only one of the major factors taken into consideration in the long process of an applicant getting admitted into a Business School that he/she desires.

The GMAT® has four sections – Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment. The following is the GMAT® test structure.

FAQs

The GMAT is a computerized test which is available year-round at testing centers across the world. You must book an appointment to sit for the test. Testing centers operate on individual schedules with some open on weekends, and most have morning and afternoon slots available. Visit www.mba.com to book your appointment.

You can register online or by phone or by mail. Detailed information about registering for the GMAT can be found on www.mba.com

A GMAT appointment costs USD 250. At the time of taking the test, the test takers can select up to 5 schools/programs to send their scores to. This facility is part of the USD 250 fee that is charged for the test.

If you cancel more than 7 days prior to test date, you will get a refund of USD 80. If you cancel within 7 days of the test date, you will not get any refund. So, it is better to reschedule than to cancel.

GMAT can be taken 5 times a year with a 16-day gap between consecutive attempts. You can take the exam 8 times in total (lifetime limit effective December 17, 2016).

Your GMAT score is valid for 5 years from the date the test is taken.

You will get your scores for quantitative, verbal and IR sections the moment you finish the exam. However, official scores (with scores for the AWA section) will take up to 20 days to reach you.

Scores can be cancelled either immediately after the GMAT exam or within 72 hours of the exam. If score is cancelled immediately after the exam at the test center, then there is no cancellation fee. If score is cancelled after the exam within 72 hours, there is a cancellation fee of USD 25. Cancelled scores can be reinstated within 4 years 11 months upon the completion of the test for an additional fee of USD 50.

You may submit your scores immediately upon completion of GMAT test. Before submitting, you may consider the option of selecting up to five B-schools to receive your official score report. If you wish to send your scores to more than five B-school programs, you may order Additional Score Reports to be sent to schools online, by phone, by fax, or by mail for a fee of USD 28. When you order an Additional Score Report to be sent to a school, you will also receive a copy.

Universities will receive the scores of all the attempts of the last 5 years. However, universities will consider the best score while taking admission decisions.

You may use past average scores accepted by university programs as an indicator. Contact us to attend a free counseling session and find out more on university requirements and to set a target score for you to work on.
